California Likely to see More Marijuana Induced Accidents

This month, November, California agreed to legalize the recreational use of marijuana along with Massachusetts and Nevada. It has also been recently approved in other states of Arkansas, Florida, Montana and North Dakota.

A recently published report by the American Auto Association discovered that the percentage of drivers in Washington State, who had THC in their systems following a fatal accident, which is the active ingredient in marijuana, more than doubled between 2013 and 2014, following the legalization of the drug in 2012.

Looking at crashes where at least one of the drivers involved was positive for THC there were 40 in 2010 and 85 two years later and this could be the tip of the iceberg and not everyone was tested.

Driving under the influence of marijuana impairs judgment, and decreases coordination. If it is combined with alcohol the degree of impairment is increased.
