On Friday night, October 15, a man died in a crash following a police pursuit in Bakersfield.
According to police, they responded to a call about a suspect involved in a burglary earlier in the week at around 7.30 pm. They then spotted the vehicle the suspect was in and followed it but the suspect then turned off his headlights and started heading westbound on eastbound Highway 58 speeding at up to 90 miles an hour along the center median. He then turned left and lost control near Union Street, crossed into the eastbound lane and hit a vehicle being driven by 20 year old Jessica Nino of Bakersfield. The suspect’s vehicle then flipped. The passenger in the vehicle, 51 year old Cristobal Montes of Lamont was uninjured but the driver died at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation and the suspect has not been named.
